Now the festive season is over for another year, I’m looking towards the exciting projects in the coming twelve months. I am planning to complete two projects this year (deadlines March and December) and the third is ongoing.
The first is my return to the theme of dance. I am a keen ballroom, Latin American, salsa and Argentine tango dancer. So to work with a contemporary dance company is exciting. I believe it’s the lighting effects upon the body shapes and their shadows upon the stage which intrigues me. All being well the works will be completed for display on March 16th.
The second project relates to the 30th anniversary of the Penlee Lifeboat Disaster which happened on 19th December 1981. I remember it well, at the time I was contemplating becoming a lifeboat man. I had formally applied when I was 18, only to receive a rejection letter from the National Lifeboat Institute informing me to reapply at the age of 21. July 1981 I was 21 and still in too minds as to reapply as a lifeboat man. The deciding factor which made me rethink my application was my inability to get to the lifeboat station in the required 3 minutes. The idea lapsed, but my interest in the work of the Institution continued.
For Christmas Frances gave me Penlee: The Loss of a Lifeboat by Michael Sagar-Fenton. It’s such a compelling good read. The text is factual well researched and for me one of the few accounts where the reader becomes an eye witness at the scene. The author not only paints a vivid image but manages to evoke the majestic force of nature’s elements.
The third project is my on going National Trust garden series which will commence in March when the gardens are reopened.
I'm looking forward to a busy and exciting year.
