I haven’t had the chance to resume painting from the Christmas holiday; and with Ma’s stroke and constant demands my brushes haven’t touched the canvas. But today Jane has returned for her first sitting of the New Year. So, I’m feeling upbeat and ready to take on the new challenges presented by Jane!
So far to date, I have spent nearly three months on this painting; and I would say I am at stage four out of eleven stages of a painting. Today’s session we concentrated on the arm and hand covering her breast. I was unhappy with the arm, feeling it didn’t wrap itself around the body convincingly. The change I made was to lower the arm; you can just see the old elbow still not painted out. I left it slightly visible just in case I was required to replace it at a later date.
It’s a joy working on such a large canvas (H:1.2m x W:1.7). Next week I want to rework the other hand and the feet. One of the advantages of working this size, you can work on different areas of the canvas.
