Jojo Two Hung!

The final works are now hung at the Barbican Theatre, as usual I have lived up to my middle name, ‘trouble’ … as suggested by Jojo, I hung the large drawing in the hallway corridor just before the two entrance doors to the theatre. The drawing is nearly 1.4m x 2m, and stuck to the wall by industrial black duck tape to represent RL’s frames. The theatre manager went made, and is very upset I attached the drawing to the wall by this method. To placate the situation I offered to repaint the walls when I removed the work. Hopefully this will be the end of the issues. My main concern with this drawing is the possibility someone might smudge it. The richness of the darks where created by applying hundreds of cross hatching. To achieve this effect I have had to leave a great deal of graphite dust. I just hope no-one gets it on their hands or clothes, the last thing I want is a dry cleaning bill!

I also have exhibited a few sketches from my sketch book. I don’t like working in sketchbooks, preferring instead to use worksheets. The advantage of worksheets over sketchbooks, the former you can constantly view the works while working on another drawing. It was therefore interesting to see the works displayed together as a story board.

As painter in residence on ‘The Man in a Red Scarf’ I have been fortunate to have taken so many photographs of the production. The above photograph is very different to the stock research photos I have taken. I am attracted to the scene because I am using the faintness of the girls as a metaphor for the transient nature of fxxking. My distinction between the act of physical ‘Love’ in contrast to ‘fxxking’ is; fxxking has no emotional bonding.

There is also good news with Morris One, a Western Morning News photographer has visited the exhibition and taken photographs of the works. I have also given a brief interview with A., and hope there might be a space in the WMN., for me in the near future.
